Coffee with God

God, coffee, and an encouraging Word...what better way to start the day.  Today's encouraging word courtesy of KLOVE:

"So don't get tired of doing what is good.  Don't get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time."~ Galatians 6:9 (NLT)

These words have never been more true.  The Lord has blessed me with a job with the White Hall School District.  This has been the desire of my heart for 10 years...I had to wait on God's timing and at times it was heartbreaking.  Sometimes God's answer is 'no' and sometimes it isn't (but I will share my thoughts and His wisdom on that another time).

I gave up...Oh, I updated my application with White Hall every year, but I had given up.  On an April day during lunch my friend and colleague, Shauna, shared that White Hall would have multiple openings.  I tried to be positive during the conversation, just because I had given up on my dream job, didn't mean she wouldn't get hers.   During this time, I was also playing phone tag with a principal in another school district.  Little did I know that God was going to change His answer from 'no' to 'yes'.  After a frustrating attempt to get in touch with the principal, the Holy Spirit said, "Call WHSD".  Okay Lord, I'll call and update my information...again.  Within thirty minutes of the initial call, I received another call to schedule an interview...my 6th in 10 years.  I was terrified to get my hopes up, but thanks to countless friends who covered me in prayer, I walked into the interview with God's grace and peace.  It was the most comfortable interview I had ever had.  It was formal with a bit of humor.

The next 4 days waiting for the school board meeting to be held were the longest...I felt I had nailed the interview, but I still didn't want to get my hopes up.  I even went to a friend on the school board to find out the notification process.  If the board approved me, I would receive a phone call; if they didn't, I would not receive a call.  I woke up that Tuesday morning determined that I would not let anxiety control my day.  As soon as I got home from work, I plugged my cell phone in my bedroom and went about my evening.  I don't recall why I originally retrieved my phone from my bedroom, but at 8:05 p.m. my phone rang and WHSD flashed across my caller ID.  I suppressed a squeal because I knew what it meant!  My new principal was calling and I heard the words, "Congratulations Peggy, you got the job!"  I could feel the excitement bubbling up and barely ended the call before I screamed in excitement.

So that my friends, in a nutshell is how God answered my prayer for my dream job.  It was a long road and I wandered off into the woods, but He put me back on the road.

More than an elementary teacher....an introduction of sorts.

I have played with the idea of starting a blog for a couple of years now.  But where to start?  I would love to share the precious nuggets that the Lord gives me during my quiet times with Him.  I would also love to share my journey as a classroom teacher, but I don't have time to maintain 2 blogs.  Thus...More Than an Elementary Teacher has been born.  I want to share the truths that God has taught me over the past 12 years AND I am going to share a day in the life of an elementary teacher.

Let's get started with getting to know me.  My name is Peggy Alexander, first and foremost, I am a Daughter of the King.  I surrendered my life to the Lord as an adult in 2002 (that journey is a post in and of itself).  I have been a member of Family Church in White Hall for 14 years and have served in various capacities in the children's and youth ministries.

I am a military brat-I was born and raised in the U.S. Air Force and then married into the U.S. Army.  I have one beautiful daughter and two dogs that I affectionately call my fur-babies.

I am an elementary teacher, I have taught kindergarten, first grade, and third grade.  I feel that God has called me to be a Christian teacher in the public school classroom and I have walked in that calling since 2004.

As I mentioned before, my purpose in beginning this blog is to share those precious nuggets that the Lord shares with me as well as sharing 'a day in the life of a teacher'.  So whether you are looking for an encouraging word from the Lord or some classroom ideas, I hope you will join me on this journey.

Many Blessings,
Peggy
